Highways, rail lines, a seldom-used stadium and, most of all, Burke Lakefront Airport
stand in the way of Cleveland repurposing its lakefront into a setting that the public

Burke Lakefront Airport is an obstacle. You can’t build a decent-sized park on the lakefront because of it. You can’t build lakefront high-rises because of it. And you can’t access much of the water’s edge near Downtown Cleveland because of it and other nearby barriers, Huntington Bank Field, the Shoreway and the Port of Cleveland.

Downtown Cleveland’s next transformations

While Downtown Cleveland adds a new tower every couple of years or so to its sky-
line, an average of nearly three office buildings were converted to new uses per year
for the past dozen years. It is the not-so-visible transformation to downtown's skyline

Next Progressive Field renovations to start

Demolition work is about to begin at selective locations throughout Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Guardians baseball team. This represents the start of the third and final phase of more than $200 million worth of renovations to the 31-year-old ballpark, located at 2401 Ontario St. in Downtown Cleveland.

Westinghouse redevelopment wins city love

This view looks north along West 58th Street, once a street of heavy industry,
toward the vacant Westinghouse plant at the end. Today, the street is lined
with $600,000-plus townhomes and apartments leasing for from $1,500

City support came from several directions today for the redevelopment of the long-vacant Westinghouse plant, 1200 W. 58th St. in Cleveland’s Gordon Square neighborhood. But more is needed in order to finalize the redevelopment financing package and design work for the project.

Haslams-Cleveland deal gets first airing

Just about everything visible in this Downtown Cleveland lakefront view is due to
be erased in less than a decade. Not only does that include Huntington Bank Field
but the Waterfront Line station, the blue Shoreway bridge at right and even the West
3rd Street bridge from which this streetview was captured. West 3rd’s bridge will be
replaced with a span that accommodates a new lakefront boulevard (Google).
