Ohio City RTA station site ideas arrive

An eastbound Red Line train arrives the West 25th-Ohio City station from
the airport. The land to the left, right and above the Red Line tracks and
parallel greenway trail is the subject of a joint station-area development
agreement between the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority and
 MRN Ltd. To the right is the soon-to-open Intro development. This

Representatives of a real estate development partnership have been making the rounds of near-west-side neighborhood block clubs to present conceptual ideas and get feedback for developing land next to the West 25th-Ohio City Red Line Station. But those same representatives caution they are still early in the design process so there is no formal plan yet.

Guardians buy land, but no ballpark village yet

This tree-covered, otherwise unused half-acre piece of land on East 9th
Street was sold recently by the Gateway Economic Development Corp.
to an affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians for future development. At
left is Eagle Avenue which runs between Progressive Field’s scoreboard,

An affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians baseball team has exercised one of two property acquisition options that were offered when the team extended its lease on Jan. 1 to play at Progressive Field for at least another 15 years. The property acquired is a half-acre parcel next to the ballpark and located at the southwest corner of East 9th Street and Bolivar Road.

NOACA seeks Cleveland Amtrak hub

A multi-modal transportation center including Amtrak trains and Regional
Transit Authority light-rail is part of downtown Cleveland lakefront develop-
ment planned by the city, Cleveland Browns owners the Haslam Sports Group,
and the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency. The latter said it
intends to ask the federal government to help fund making Cleveland an

The director of the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), a metropolitan planning organization, today said she intends to submit to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) multiple proposed passenger rail routes through Cleveland for inclusion in the Biden Administration’s multi-billion-dollar rail development program. There was a new FRA program announced today to which NOACA pledged to submit Cleveland-based routes for consideration.

Cleveland Clinic formally announces expansion

Cleveland Clinic Foundation released this clean version of a rendering
of its new, 1-million-square-foot-plus Neurological Institute planned for
Carnegie Avenue, between East 89th and East 90th streets. NEOtrans has

Citing tremendous growth in the number of patients seeking health care, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF) today formally announced plans for $1.3 billion worth of facilities expansion worldwide. But most of the new construction is planned for its main campus near University Circle in Cleveland.

Megaprojects program gears up for next round

Two high-rise towers at the Circle Square development are under con-
struction in this recent view from Euclid Avenue near East 105th Street
in Cleveland’s University Circle. The 24-story Artisan is well underway
while the 11-story Library Lofts is just getting started in the foreground.
More buildings could soon be added at Circle Square if developer Mid-
west Development Partners applies for a megaprojects tax credit (KJP).

This week, the Ohio Department of Development announced that it is opening round two of its new and popular Transformational Mixed Use Development (TMUD) tax credits program on May 18. Authorized for four years with up to $100 million in tax credits available each year, the deadline for submitting TMUD applications for Fiscal Year 2023 is 4 p.m. July 8.

New Bridgeworks design wins support

This new ground-floor façade of the planned Bridgeworks tower at the
west end of the Detroit-Superior Bridge incorporates designs and ma-
terials from the Art Deco-styled Cuyahoga County Engineers garage
that the developers propose to raze for the 15-story tower (Mass/LDA).

Plans for building an apartment-hotel tower called Bridgeworks at the west end of the Detroit-Superior Bridge appear to be back on track after the development team made some design changes. Those changes allowed the project to win unanimous support yesterday from the Ohio City Design-Review Committee. The same committee last month sent the project back to the drawing board.

Two major development projects in Cleveland’s inner-ring suburbs won thumbs up last night but in two different ways. In Lakewood, City Council gave its unanimous approval to the framework for an agreement with a Columbus-based real estate firm for a proposed $90 million development at the former downtown hospital site.
