Cleveland Clinic formally announces expansion

Cleveland Clinic Foundation released this clean version of a rendering
of its new, 1-million-square-foot-plus Neurological Institute planned for
Carnegie Avenue, between East 89th and East 90th streets. NEOtrans has
 been sharing this rendering but as a screenshot from a video of the State
of the Clinic presentation from earlier this year (CCF).

Citing tremendous growth in the number of patients seeking health care, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF) today formally announced plans for $1.3 billion worth of facilities expansion worldwide. But most of the new construction is planned for its main campus near University Circle in Cleveland.

Megaprojects program gears up for next round

Two high-rise towers at the Circle Square development are under con-
struction in this recent view from Euclid Avenue near East 105th Street
in Cleveland’s University Circle. The 24-story Artisan is well underway
while the 11-story Library Lofts is just getting started in the foreground.
More buildings could soon be added at Circle Square if developer Mid-
west Development Partners applies for a megaprojects tax credit (KJP).

This week, the Ohio Department of Development announced that it is opening round two of its new and popular Transformational Mixed Use Development (TMUD) tax credits program on May 18. Authorized for four years with up to $100 million in tax credits available each year, the deadline for submitting TMUD applications for Fiscal Year 2023 is 4 p.m. July 8.

New Bridgeworks design wins support

This new ground-floor façade of the planned Bridgeworks tower at the
west end of the Detroit-Superior Bridge incorporates designs and ma-
terials from the Art Deco-styled Cuyahoga County Engineers garage
that the developers propose to raze for the 15-story tower (Mass/LDA).

Plans for building an apartment-hotel tower called Bridgeworks at the west end of the Detroit-Superior Bridge appear to be back on track after the development team made some design changes. Those changes allowed the project to win unanimous support yesterday from the Ohio City Design-Review Committee. The same committee last month sent the project back to the drawing board.

Two major development projects in Cleveland’s inner-ring suburbs won thumbs up last night but in two different ways. In Lakewood, City Council gave its unanimous approval to the framework for an agreement with a Columbus-based real estate firm for a proposed $90 million development at the former downtown hospital site.

Eden offers a rooftop garden respite

Geis Companies announced this week that it plans to open a new sky-club and lounge called Eden May 20 at The Metropolitan at The 9 hotel in downtown Cleveland. Located on the roof of the 1010 Euclid Building, the address is actually accessed through the 12th floor of The 9 complex’s 29-story tower, 2017 E. 9th St., that contains the Autograph Collection-flag hotel and the Residences at The 9 apartments.

Food biz feasts on East Side expansion

At the northeast corner of East 55th Street and Central Avenue in Cleveland,
plans are coming together for the expansion of a food service manufacturing
plant by repurposing and expanding the former Goodwill Industries building,
later used briefly by the Wahconah Group Inc. (LoopNet).

A food service business that’s barely two years old has nearly outgrown its 120,000-square-foot building in Cleveland’s Central neighborhood and is already making plans for expansion. Such growth is an increasingly common story for food sector businesses located on the city’s near-East Side, especially from Midtown south to Slavic Village, generally along East 55th Street.

Old Play House gets May 16 curtain call

 The vacant, former home of the Cleveland Play House in the Fairfax
neighborhood is the subject of a community meeting scheduled to be
held next month. Owner Cleveland Clinic plans to demolish the com-
plex for one or more possible uses that will be discussed at the

The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Fairfax Renaissance Development Corp. will host a public meeting to gather community input on what to do with the vacant former home of the Cleveland Play House (CPH), 8500 Euclid Ave. The meeting is part of a larger effort by the community development corporation and the Clinic to refine a multi-billion-dollar construction masterplan for the health system’s Main Campus.
