Chimney Restaurant in Cleveland’s Slavic Village neighborhood. The building is
structurally but not economically salvageable, so it will be demolished before

Mega-redevelopment sites are emerging all around Downtown Cleveland. There’s the 50-acre lakefront site that includes the to-be-demolished Huntington Bank Field. There’s the nearly 40-acre Bedrock Riverfront site. There’s the 62-acre ex-Lake Shore Power Plant site just east of downtown. And there’s the 450-acre site that now contains Burke Lakefront Airport.

ODOT approves funding for several Cuyahoga County projects

Road and rail construction in Cuyahoga County will benefit from state funding approved this
week by the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Transportation Review Advisory Council.
In 2020, the Opportunity Corridor Boulevard was getting built above while the light-rail
tracks of the Blue and Green Lines were getting rebuilt west of Shaker Square (GCRTA).

On Wednesday, the Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) Transportation Review Advisory Council (TRAC) released its latest list of construction commitments for transportation infrastructure throughout the state. Over $60 million is allocated to four projects in Cuyahoga county expected to begin construction within the year.

Immaculate Conception Church, 4129 Superior Ave, opened its doors to a young, Irish immigrant-heavy parish in 1878 on Cleveland’s near-east side. Some changes are healthy, but the proposed service reductions to Greater Cleveland Re-
gional Transit Authority bus and rail routes may hurt some riders while forcing others to

Last fall, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) warned that its worsening budget situation would mean some potentially significant service cuts starting this year. if a public-private partnership can bring funding and plans together to save the historic

Master Chrome coming down, cleaning up

Master Chrome, a fixture on Cleveland’s near West Side since
1950, is coming down over the next month or two. The state
of Ohio may seize the property and ultimately list it for sale
so the 0.57-acre property can be returned to productive

Fencing went up yesterday around the former site of Master Chrome, a polluted brownfield industry, 5709 Herman Ave., in Cleveland’s Gordon Square neighborhood. And in the next month or two, its vine-covered building is coming down. After that, any contaminated materials and soil will be removed. Then the property’s future will be decided.

Historic Warner & Swasey factory begins $64M restoration

The former headquarters of Warner & Swasey, a manufacturer of machine tools,
has sat decaying on Cleveland’s Carnegie Avenue for four decades. By 2028,

Across the two-mile-long, four-block-wide district known as Midtown Cleveland, several critical projects are finally seeing construction activity. The largest of those, a $64 million rehabilitation of the abandoned Warner & Swasey machine tools factory, will add 112 apartments to the area in its first phase.

Sherwin-Williams’ new HQ overflowing

The new Sherwin-Williams headquarters fits in with its neighbors in the Downtown Cleveland
skyline. And that new HQ is full — so much so that IT staff were reportedly allowed to work
remotely so employees at another downtown building could move in (The Sherwin-Williams

When Sherwin-Williams’ (SHW) headquarters was still under construction in 2024, the company’s executives said they would wait and see how employees filled out the new tower just west of Downtown Cleveland’s Public Square before making any new facility-related decisions. As the tower fills, they’re starting to get some answers.

Failed I-X Center deal, new Browns stadium put convention, trade-show biz in flux

The International Exposition Center, or I-X Center, was built during World War II next
to Cleveland’s main airport to assemble Boeing B-29 bombers. Later it was used to
build military tanks. But for the last 40 years, it has hosted trade shows, exhibitions
and other events. How long that will continue remains uncertain (Google).

To say that Greater Cleveland’s convention and visitors business is in a state of flux right now would be an understatement. Two new developments have put it there — the failure of a pending deal to redevelop the I-X Center for a new tenant plus the design and marketing of the new Huntington Bank Field as a competitive event venue.

Cleveland’s ex-Masonic Temple for sale

Located just east of Downtown Cleveland, the former Masonic Hall was recently
renovated by TempleLive as a performing arts venue but plans for further develop-
ment didn’t pan out. Now the property outlined yellow is for sale (Newmark).

Although much of the former Masonic Temple, 3615 Euclid Ave., was significantly renovated in the past decade, even larger development plans for the historic landmark property didn’t pan out. And now the owner is putting the property up for sale.

Once upon a time, Ohio was crisscrossed with intercity bus routes that served just about every small town with a population of 10,000 or more. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and GoBus are trying to reconnect small-town Ohio with its largest cities, airports, and train/bus stations to improve regional accessibility.

Lakefront apartments on East Side OK’d

On Friday, City Planning Commission unanimously approved a planned 209-unit lakefront apartment development at the north end of Cleveland’s Goodrich-Kirtland Park neighborhood. The project, Union at Cleveland Harbor, is being developed by the Annex Group of Indiana and designed by RDL Architects of Beachwood.
